Counting Crows
July 19, 2005 at 12:47 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

I dislike crows, and there a lot of them at my new place. When I heard of people down by Victoria Park complaining about a lot of crows I first thought it is just a couple of crows. Now that I live in an area with a high crow population I realize how difficult it is to sleep in, even to eight o’clock, with crows crawling around in your gutters and cawing at each other around my place. I don’t think I would complain to the city about it, but I do have a better appreciation for their problem.

The thing that really turned me against crows happened this Saturday at Fox Meadow Golf and Country Club. Four of us went golfing. I had just parked my cart at the tee box for hole 11 and walking up to the putting green for hole 10 when I saw something moving back at the golf cart. When I turned around there was a crow with my bag of chips in its beak. I ran after it hoping that it would drop the bag right away. I fumbled though my pockets for a ball to throw at it, but I had none. The crow held tight to my chips and flew off into the woods.

What really amazes me about the whole thing is that the crow would have had to crawl right into the cart, since I had them stuffed in the cubby hole. And the crow would have had a few bags of chips before, because I had not even opened the chips yet for him to smell that there was food inside. I just hope that he could not open the bag (because I know I have trouble opening them sometimes), and that there is an unopened bag of chips lying in the woods along side of hole 11 at Fox Meadow.

What was even more remarkable was that the crows weren't around the front nine. It just shows how smart they are. They most know that golfers have food in their around that area, which happens to be after the nine hole where people grab a snack. The crows actually came into Mark and my cart and took our empty bags of chips. And is it just me or are the crows getting a lot bigger? It would be quite hard to take one out with a pellet gun. Eh Paul?

You just have to shoot them in the eye.

Also, Kent, I hear UPEI has an English grammer course this semester, maybe you should look into it.

I think the grammer course might interfer with my speed typing ability. I try to type as fast as I can and when i am done I hit post. Then I let other people fix wqhat I wrote in their head.

Has anyone ever been down near Victoria Park around 5ish when the crows are headin in? Its quite weird. I was heading into Charlottetown on Sunday around 4:30 and from North River I could see tons of crows headin into town. When I got closer to town I realized they were all heading to Victoria Park. When I got down near the park (by the pool) I looked out over the water and all you could see were crows headin in. When you thought they were near gone the little black spec in the sky would turn into a crow. It was weird. So when I drove around to the goveners house there were hundreds of crows. Most of them were in the trees, Some in the snow banks, some in the parking lot, and some on the beach. It was weird.

Yeah, really wierd.
I see them flying over all the time. it's almost like they have a mini-migration thing going on, everyday they do that.
