Nastalgic Remake
October 28, 2004 at 9:58 am AST by Rodney MacLeod

There have been a lot of old TV shows remade into Movies lately, Flintstones, Adams Family, and Starsky and Hutch to name a few. In the making are A-team, and Bewitched. For the most part these remakes have been successful. Now why not redirect this success back at the TV and make a TV show that is remakes of older shows.

This would be a weekly (or almost weekly) show like any other TV show, except that the show would actually change from week to week. One week they would have a remake of Three's Company and the next week it could be All in the Family. The show would only be a half an hour long, but it could have remakes of hour long dramas like the Dukes of Hazzard, or Dallas and they could even do live action remakes of cartoons like the Jetsons or the Simpsons. It would not have to be a different remake each week. Sometimes the same remake could have a three or four week run.

I am still unsure of the actors. Would they recast each episode and get actors who best suit the part, or would they have a consistant cast who would be able to play parts that best fit them. They could also have a core cast that is there from week to week, but have one or two special guests each remake to compliment the existing cast.

One thing I would not like to see is the show being a spoof of all the shows it remakes. Sure they could have a little humor at the expense of the origanil show, but the point of the show would not be to poke fun.

And how would you pay for all of this? Different sets, actors, locations.......etc.

Well, umm, by winning on Jeopardy of course.

Imho, that would be a very bad idea. Like almost all remakes, that would ruin the great series of the past. Producers should stop trying to make remakes, and start coming up with something creative and fresh.

I think if it was a great series in the past, then it should be able to stand up to any remakes. A couple of episodes of remakes would bring awareness to the great shows of the paste. If a show can be ruined by a remake, then I suggest that the show was not all that great to begin with.
