Free Parking
November 30, 2004 at 1:13 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

The city of Charlottetown is trying to encourage people to go downtown. The last two years they have had free parking downtown for the Christmas season. According to CBC this only cost the city $20,000. I think that this is a great thing the city is doing for the businesses downtown, but some employees according to members of the police committee, were abusing this free parking and taking up the parking spaces on the street. What good is giving customers free parking if the employees are going to take the best spots. By taking up the best spots in the downtown, for what would probably be for the duration of an eight hour shift, these employess are potentially turning away the customers that the city spent $20,000 to bring downtown. If the business owners had taken a stronger stance on parking abuse by their employees, then they could possibly have the benifit of customers coming downtown again this year fir free parking.

What I want to know Rodney-for-mayor is why a bridge needs an advertizing campaign. I understand that we need to pay a toll to go over the Confed Bridge to suppliment the up-keep, but why does a bridge need to advertize at the Charlottetown Civic Centre? And why does a bridge need to sponsor Annne of Green Gables the Musical? This ad campaign Strait Crossing is plugging must be costing them thousands and thousands of dollars. I think that I would rather pay less to cross the bridge. About this issue, I won't be able to "get over it."

bridges spend money in advertising campaigns to be good corporate citizens. they don,t advertise to get you to use it. you will or you wont. the bridge is a buisness owned by staight crossinginc. they choose to invest some of the profit back into the community duh! praise the bridge and sink the ferry....
